The Citizens’ Disaster Response Center (CDRC) is once again staging its annual poster-making contest entitled “APOY, BAGYO, KALAMIDAD: DIBUHONG PAMBATA or ABKD 2009”.

TS Jolina brings floods and landslides

Eleven provinces in nine regions were affected by Tropical Storm Jolina over the weekend. Some 38,589 families suffered from floods and landslides due to heavy rains. Eight people died, 10 others were injured, and 5 went missing.

The Philippines ranks among the world’s most disaster-prone countries. It is highly prone to natural disasters, particularly typhoons, floods, landslides, volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, and tsunamis, lying as it does in the typhoon belt, in the active volcanic region known as the “Pacific Ring of Fire,” and in the geologically unstable region between the Pacific and Eurasian tectonic plates.
