In its 8pm bulletin on Dec. 14, 2009, PHIVOLCS (Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology) raised Mayon Volcano’s alert status from level 2 to level 3. This means that magma is close to the crater and hazardous explosive eruption is imminent. Mayon Volcano is located in the province of Albay in the Bicol Region.
