FOUR WEEKS AFTER “ONDOY” (KETSANA): Several communities in Metro Manila still flooded

Four weeks after Typhoon Ondoy (Ketsana) struck Metro Manila, several communities are still submerged under floodwaters, the Citizens’ Disaster Response Center (CDRC), a non-profit organization advocating community-based disaster management revealed.
“We did not expect our emergency relief operation to last this long, but after doing continued rapid assessments, we discovered that several areas are still under water, and very much in need of help,” said Carlos Padolina, Deputy Executive Director of CDRC during arelief delivery operation in Brgy. Bagumbayan, Quezon City, Saturday.
“We are now on our fourth consecutive week of efforts in alleviating the situation of the flooded communities, and we are not slowing down,” Padolina added.
CDRC, in collaboration with Civic Force, a Japanese NGO, gave relief goods to affected families in Brgy. Bagumbayan, Quezon City, one of several communities in Metro Manila still submerged in flood.
CDRC, along with its volunteers, also conducted feeding and psychosocial therapy sessions, including free play and arts workshop for children as part of its comprehensive approach to disaster management. “Aside from the families affected by Ondoy, we are also responding to those affected by Pepeng (Parma) in Northern Luzon,” Padolina said. “So we expect our relief efforts to extend until December, including our rehabilitation projects.”
CDRC was established in 1984 to provide assistance to the most affected, least served and most vulnerable sectors through disaster preparedness and mitigation, emergency relief, and rehabilitation programs. #
