Japanese NGOs assist flood-affected families

Civic Force and Peace Winds Japan, two Japanese NGOs, are providing relief assistance to 8,364 flood-affected families in Metro Manila, Southern Tagalog and Central Luzon. Funding for this project, amounting to P9.2 M, was sourced-out from Japan Platform.

Last August 7, 2012, torrential rains caused by the southwest monsoon and enhanced by Tropical Storm Haikui, brought floods and landslide in Metro Manila and nearby provinces.

More than 700,000 families or 3.3 million people were affected.

Widespread flooding was reported in major cities in Metro Manila such as Valenzuela, Malabon, Muntinlupa, Makati, Navotas, Paranaque, Quezon, Marikina and Pasig. Flooding was also reported in the nearby provinces of Pangasinan, Bulacan, Rizal, Laguna, Cavite, Pampanga, Pangasinan, etc.

Peace Winds Japan and Civic Force immediately responded to CDRC’s appeal for help by providing food and non-food items to the affected families in 36 communities.
