Military operation in Basilan displaced 1500 families

1,516 families (7,103 persons) from 10 Barangays in Basilan Province were displaced due to an ongoing armed conflict that started January 17,2011, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council.
Among the affected barangays are Guinata, Kailih, Bucalao, Kuhon, Cambug, Linuan, Danapah, Macalang, Kuhon Lennuh and Bohe Piyang.
Government troops intensified its military operation in these areas and pursued members of the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) which is largely blamed for its bombing and kidnapping-for-ransom activities.
As of January 28, 937 families were evacuated to other barangays while 579 families were evacuated to Tipo-tipo.
NDDRMC reported some concerns in assisting the IDPs: the Absence of Internal revenue allotment and subsidy from the National Government, as well as the inaccessibility of communication facilities in the area.
