TS Gener kills 45; affects thousands of families

Tropical Storm Gener (Saola) affected 1,207 barangays, 150 municipalities and 28 cities in 35 provinces across several regions. The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council also reported that 190,196 families or 858,534 people have been affected, while 45 people were killed.

The total cost of damages to infrastructure was ₱ 116,560,384.00 while the total cost of damages to private properties amounting to ₱ 500,000.00, most of which were from Region IV-B. The cost of damage to agriculture on the other hand was ₱ 222,746,412.20 which were mostly damage to crops and livestock. Overall, the total estimated cost of damage for all sectors amount to ₱ 339,806,796.20.

The following areas were declared under the State of Calamity: Navotas City; Obando, Bulacan; Mabitac, Laguna; Bacoor; Tanza; Ternate; Rosario; Kawit; Naic; Noveleta; Cavite City; San Luis and Lemery, Batangas; San Jose, Occidental Mindoro; Valladolid, Negros Occidental; Barangays Hacienda, Brgy. Portic and Brgy. Cayanga the Municipality of Bugallon; Pangasinan; and Lauan and Culasi, Antique.

Need for Assistance

To date, 3,258 persons or 14,181 persons are still staying in 94 evacuation centers. The evacuees are still in need of food items such as canned goods, rice, dried fish, water, etc.
