TYPHOON AMBO Situation Report #1 May 16, 2020 3:47 pm

Overall Situation
• On May 15, Typhoon Ambo traversed Catanauan, Quezon and approached Northern Quezon-Laguna Area. It weakened into a Severe Tropical Storm as it continued to move towards Northern Quezon-Laguna Area. STS Ambo slightly weakened and approached Real-Infanta area in Northern Quezon. It maintained its strength and moved towards Bulacan. STS Ambo continued to weaken and moved over Northern Bulacan-Southern Nueva Ecija area.
• On May 16, Ambo weakened into a Tropical Storm and traversed the northwestern Nueva Ecija-Eastern Pangasinan Area. It further weakened and traversed Benguet province. TS Ambo maintained its strength and traversed the coastal waters of Sta. Cruz, Ilocos Sur.
• TS Ambo slighty weakens while moving north-northwestward over the coast of Ilocos provinces. It is bringing moderate to heavy rains over Cagayan Valley; light to moderate with at times heavy rains iver Ilocos Region, CAR, and the northern portions of Aurora and Zambales.
• The following areas are placed under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 2: Babuyan Islands, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, and Abra. (Source: PAGASA)
Reports on Affected Populations
• As of May 16, 3 road sections in Eastern Visayas were reported not passable: JCT Taft-Oras-San Policarpo-Arteche Road, Lope de Vega to Catarman, and San Jose to Allen in Northern Samar.
• The municipal gymnasium in Maslog, Eastern Samar was totally damaged.
• The following areas in Samar were reported experiencing power line interruption: Zumarraga, Talalora, Gandara, Pagsanghan, Matuguinao, Daram, Tarangnan, Pinabacdao, Villareal, Calbiga, and Hinabangan.
• Areas in Eastern Samar (Borongan City, Llorente, and Guian) were reported experiencing power interruptionbut has immediately been restored.
• The following areas in Eastern Samar are experiencing signal interruption: Jipapad, Arteche, San Policarpo, Oras, Dolores, and Maslog.
• A total of 121 passengers, 55 rolling cargoes, and 7 vessels were reported stranded while 4 vessels are taking shelter, all withing CGS Northern Samar.
• Work in Region VIII particularly in Southern Leyte (19 LGUs), Samar (Gandara, Motiong, Paranas, and Zumarraga), and Eastern Samar were reported cancelled.
• A total of 2,163 families or 6,474 persons were pre-emptively evacuated.
• A total of 1,648 families or 6,474 persons were pre-emptively evacuated in the province of Samar:

• A total of 515 families were evacuated from the towns of Maninila, Tandadora, and Muladbucad Grande, all in the Albay area between the cities of Naga and Legazpi City. (Source: AccuWeather)
